[...] It’s a Wednesday afternoon and a bunch of humanoid pigs need killin’. Again. In WoW-speak, this means we’re going to Razorfen Downs (RFD), which isn’t exactly the most common instance to run, but the loot’s not bad, and the making of our group seems solid: a holy Priest, a Hunter, a Paladin, a Shaman, and a Warrior. I say “seems” because though we were ultimately successful and only wiped twice, the troupe had danger written all over it, because apparently, some players still don’t know their character’s roles.

[...] I’ve since fixed the oversight, and brought Daemon back online, with an associated link on mendax.org’s main navigation bar. Rather than reside on a mini-site however, a brief blurb about the work can be found as a page on the main site, complete with a link to download a PDF of the supplement. Though Daemon is arguably outdated given that the WoD has third-edition campaigns now available, the heart of Daemon was in the concept, and its respective material should easily be adaptable to any changes the WoD rules have undergone.

[...] Recently, WoW Insider linked to our guide on WoW classes for instance-play, and the comments therein prompted me to make a quick update to the guide. It seems I forgot to include the Hunter class in the damage-dealing category, which was an unfortunate oversight. In version 0.03 of the guide, I’ve fixed this mistake, and given the Hunter proper recognition as a capable damage dealer. By WyldKard, 19. May 2006, 16:48 o'clock [...]

Good guide, and an excellent read for all players. My only grip is the little attention given to DPS; their abilities make them less versatile for sure, but rogues' damage (which is greater on a single target than mages', by the way; mages win at multi-targetting, ie. AoE attacks) can be very useful to bring a loose add back to the tanks. Because they're melee, thus always fighting next to the tanks, and because Taunt can be resisted quite regurlarly, a well-played rogue's job is not only to DPS something down; rogues can't -hold- aggro, but they can easily gain aggro for a few seconds, long enough to kite (sometimes called "evasion-tanking", it's not really tanking tho, just a mean to avoid taking a serious beating while gaining all the aggro possible) the add back to the tanks. This is pretty useful when an add comes loose and generally ends up straight in the ranged/clothy camp.

Overall though, and since I mainly play a rogue, I'm a bit disappointed in Blizzard for giving rogues very little to do in end-game runs; it's a running gag among rogues that our job consists in 3 keys: sinister strike/backstab to generate combo points, eviscerate to release them, feint/vanish to reduce/wipe aggro.

[...] For those who haven’t been given a fair explanation of their character classes as far as grouping is concerned, and what roles their classes are supposed to play, I’ve updated my class role guide to v0.02.

[...] So it is for your devouring that I release my guide to class roles in the World of Warcraft, specifically as such roles apply to instances. I don’t think it contains anything groundbreaking or new, but rather serves as a proper summary for those who may not be playing their characters efficiently in groups, which is often the case given player’s desire to engage in player-versus-player combat rather than completing quests and exploring the game’s dungeons. Sadly, however, much of the game’s content, particularly as it relates to cool gear, requires exploration of such instances, and hopefully this class guide will help a few people find their way.
