WowMatrix not the bee’s knees.

A couple weeks ago we came across WowMatrix, an addon manager for World of Warcraft. The program is very similar to WoWAceUpdater, the OS X version of which which we utilize in conjunction with mendax.wow. WowMatrix has picked up some steam since it was revealed at the WoWAce fora, and has recently been promoted by BRK. Interestingly, WowMatrix has been accused by the folks at WoWAce not only of mirroring files without the respective author’s permissions, but by not working alongside the WoWAce community at large. Even the WowMatrix web site is somewhat shady considering the lack of information about the updater, which makes us wonder why folks like BRK are even advertising the updater without properly comparing it to what else is out there.

Even more interesting is the lack of commonly used addons WowMatrix represents, which refers to both Ace-based addons as well as non-Ace addons hosted elsewhere. This may be linked to many addon authors requesting that their respective addons be removed from WowMatrix’ database, but regardless of reason, an incomplete addon updater is a poor substitute for the handful out there that work, and that at least have all Ace-based addons among their offerings.
